We have broken speed of light

Here's the article from England's Telegraph newspaper. The implications to Einstein's special theory of relativity are staggering. But is it really faster than light travel, or teleportation?

Home Exercise Equipment

It's always been my observation that home exercise equipment is a colossal waste of cash. Mostly they get used for a few weeks, then they become a very expensive clothes hanger.

I saw this ironic scene on my way to lunch the other day -- an exercise bike thrown away, but so big it didn't fit in the dumpster.

At least the former owner got some exercise hauling it out to the dumpster.

Losing Faith

A remarkable LA Times article about a religious man, so devout that he even became a reporter for religious issues, who eventually sees religion for what it really is, and has a "change of heart" in the end. A captivating read.

The Knights who say.... "uterus"

In this video Rev. Debra Haffner, a UU Minister, found herself sharing a television split-screen with conservative talk show host Bill O’Reilly debating sex education for elementary school children.

O’Reilly asked Haffner, who is a sexologist, and author of From Diapers to Dating: A Parent’s Guide to Raising Sexually Healthy Children what he should say if he were a teacher and a kindergartner asked him where babies come from.

Haffner started to respond, “In a special place inside a woman there is a uterus. And inside the uterus a baby begins to grow.”

O’Reilly interrupted her with a firm, “No!” He said, “Five year olds, I don’t want ‘uterus’. . . It’s beyond their capacity to understand.”

God On Trial

Peter Irons, a Unitarian Universalist, and a professor emeritus of political science at the University of California, San Diego. A noted constitutional scholar, historian, and lawyer, he is the author of the bestselling May It Please the Court; The Battle for the Constitution; War Powers: How the Imperial Presidency Hijacked the Constitution; and A People's History of the Supreme Court. His newest book is God on Trial: Dispatches from America's Religious Battlefields.

In this conversation with D.J. Grothe, Peter Irons discusses the legal issues involved in the church-state court cases detailed in God on Trial, the personalities involved in the various cases and their motivations, and how religion can be so divisive in society. He also explores whether or not atheism is a civil rights issue, and what secularists and religious people alike may do to help secure separation of church and state in the United States.
